Porsche 918 Spyder gets leaked in China

Porsche patented the production version of the 918 Spyder in China and quickly the patents were revealed showing us what the future hybrid supercar from the German company will look like.

 

The differences between this car and the concept, concern things that are mandatory in a road version, as door handles, mirrors, indicator lights, seat belts, some cosmetic changes to the front bumper and the exhaust is no longer on the side.

The public presentation should happen in September, 2013, and will cost approximately €755.000 ($1.000.000). The engine will be a 4.6liter V8 with 580hp (430 kW) connected to two electric motors, one moves the front wheels and has 115hp while the other is mounted between the petrol engine and the seven-speed PDK transmission, and will help with 125hp.

 

The hybrid supercar will do 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in less than 3 seconds and will have a top speed of over 320km/h (200mph).

Short News: Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo - The design process [Video]

In this video we can follow designers Michael Mauer and Mitja Borkert at the Porsche Research and Development center in Weissach, Germany, explaining the development process of the Panamera Sport Turismo.

 

Like most vehicles, this also started as a clay model and we get to see the car from that stage to its presentation at the Paris Motor Show, along with explanations of the various stylistic choices used in this vehicle. I really hope Porsche decides to build this or at least use it as the concept for the Panamera's next generation.

 

Porsche returns to Le Mans in 2014! [Video]

 

The objective? Win! Porsche has a great history in Le Mans, having won 16 times in the LMP1 category, including seven in a row from 1981 through 1987, but their last win was in 1998.

 

The first tests with the new car should happen in the first half of 2013, but the drivers are not known yet, but rumors point to Nick Heidfeld as one of the pilots. But this won't mean Audi will leave Le Mans, they had nothing to say about this decision, meaning the VW Group will have two brands competing in the LMP1 class.

Porsche exceeds the number of cars sold last year

We all know the economy is bad, and it is not the best time for great expense, but to save money, yet Porsche doesn't seem to suffer from that.

From January to November 2012 Porsche sold 128.978 new vehicles, which is more than what was sold in the entire year of 2011, 118.868 cars. So of course the Volkswagen group is happy.

“Our current product initiative has continuously improved the attractiveness of the Porsche brand in 2012,”

“The fact that we have already surpassed the previous year's result in November is no reason for us to rest on our laurels. On the contrary, it is an incentive to deliver maximum performance in the next year – in spite of continued uncertainty in the marketplace.”

Said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG.

Both the North American market as the Chinese saw the Porsche sales increase more than 71 and 63%, respectively, compared with 2011, with the Boxter and the 911 Carrera sales the main responsible for this increase.

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup introduced [Video]

Based on the soon to be presented Porsche 911 GT3, the Cup is a natural evolution of its own design with new front and rear bumpers, a rather large rear wing, an double exhaust mounted in the middle of the car and the normal slicks race tires from Michelin.

Inside we have the normal characteristics of a racing car, including a flat-bottomed steering wheel, digital instruments, a completely new racing seat and of course a roll cage to ensure the safety of the pilot.

The engine is a 3.8liter flat-six developing around 460hp (338kW) connected to a six-speed "dog-type" transmission that is operated via steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.

It will cost €181.200 (£146.000 or $234.000) without taxes and will only be able to compete in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Porsche registered the 919 designation but it isn't sure it will be used, probably the German automobile manufacturer wants to protect the designation so no other brand can use it.

First pictures of the 2013 Porsche 981 Cayman

14 hours ago you saw here the first image of the Cayman, courtesy of the Flat6 Magazine, but today Porsche has finally released the first official images of the new small Porsche.

It will be available in two trims, the Cayman 2.7 with 275hp and the Cayman S 3.4 developing 325hp. Even if it has a different name, the Cayman is basically the hardtop version of the Boxter with a slightly different bumper and boot lid.

First official picture of the new Porsche Cayman 981

After so many pictures of the almost uncovered Cayman, the French magazine Flat6 will present its readers with the first pictures of the new Porsche.


In the cover of the December edition, that we have now acess to, we can see how the front will look like, plus information about the power figures of Cayman 2.7 and Cayman S 3.4, which are 275ps and 325ps, respectively.

2013 Porsche Cayman without camouflage in a warehouse

With the exception of some vinyl over the lights this is the shape of the new Porsche Cayman set the be revealed to the public in the Los Angeles Motor Show. The presentation will happen on the 28 of November.

Porsche 961 confirmed

Matthias Muller, Porsche's CEO, has confirmed to AutoExpress that they are working in a rival for the Ferrari 458 Italia and Mclaren MP4-12C that rumors point to the revival of the 961 badge, pictured above, which was a racing car based on the 959 sports car.


This new model will be slotted between the ultra-expensive 918 Spyder and the still expensive 911 GT2 RS and will cost around 312.000€ (250.000£). It will borrow the technology used in the 918 Spyder, like the lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic monocoque chassis.

The engine is expected to be the same then the one in the 918 Spyder, developing around 570bhp and a 0-100km/h (0 to 62mph) time of just over three seconds to match those in the Ferrari and Mclaren.
