[Updated] Official images of the BMW 3-series GT show up in the internet

The pictures do look real and are similar to what we had already seen in spy photos. The Gran Turismo has, like the 5-Series, a higher and larger rear section that will take some time to fully appreciate it, and while we didn't expect any changes in the front it features an updated grille and new bumpers.

The 5-Series GT was considered a flop, it didn't sell what BMW was expecting and pretty much the public did not like the weird rear section. But it seems BMW isn't giving up on this idea. The new car is 200 millimeters longer, 110 millimetre longer wheelbase and stands 81 millimeters taller than the Touring

The engines will be the same available on the rest of the 3-Series range, and the public presentation will happen at the Geneva Motor Show in a few weeks. Below we have the normal GT and the M Sports Package.

BMW 316i, the new entry level 3 Series

A few years ago most car makers had only one objective, increase the power in their cars, but now downsizing is the way to go, and BMW is no exception.

 

If a brand wants to survive they have to sell cars and with increasing fuel prices and with an ailing economy people just don't want to spend that much in a car. So BMW introduced the 316i, a car that will pay less taxes thanks to its 1.6liter engine connected to a six speed manual gearbox that produces 136hp and emits only 134g/km of CO2.

Needing only 5.8 liters to drive 100km, the fuel consumption is relatively low. And it isn't slow, requiring 8.9 seconds to reach 100km/h and is able to reach 210km/h.

It will cost a little over €30.500 ($39.500) in Spain.

BMW 3-Series GT with M Sport Package caught during a photoshoot

Another day, another car gets caught undisguised during a photoshoot, this time in the USA. Besides that we get to the see the vehicle in two trims, the silver car has the new M-sport package, while the light brown car (the one above) is the standard model.

The new Gran Turismo is higher, has a new profile and new rear and side windows, new taillights and uses a two-part tailgate lke the 5GT. The engines options will be the same as those in the normal 3-Series, including four and six cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

The presentation of the BMW 3GT may happen in the first quarter of 2013.
